The Calculator

The Calculator measures the impact of your house of faith on the earth's climate by measuring how many tons of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases your choices create each year. Once calculated and conservation measures implemented, the next calculation can show the reduction in greenhouse gases emitted by your congregation.

Today energy costs of electricity and natural gas are skyrocketing for every congregation and conservation measures have become critical to annual budgets. Each of us contributes to the greenhouse gas emissions that are causing climate change. There are many things that can be done to reduce our carbon emissions. The choices we make in our homes, our travel, the food we eat, and what we buy and throw away all influence our carbon footprint and can help ensure a safe future for the next generation. The Path To Sustainability will guide your house of faith and congregation smoothly through the steps of energy conservation.

To use The Calculator, have ready your gas bills, electric bills, auto gasoline receipts, and any diesel fuel purchased or air travel miles. The gas bills will show the therms used each month; and the electric bills will show the kilowatt (kWh) hours used. Have ready, if possible, the total gallons of auto gasoline and/or diesel purchased, as well as your air miles. The Calculator can be used for only Natural Gas and Electricity calculations.
